513 Guy Flat Truck with Tailboard

This very rare example of the Guy Flat Truck with Tailboard is in yellow cab & chassis, mid green tailboard and mid green wheels. This version was made around 1953 only and basically came about using the cab/chassis which was left over from the Guy “Weetabix” vans [this was when the licence to sell the Weetabix advertising ceased but the cab & chassis’s were already paint prepared]. As with all the Guy vans, the cab/chassis never used the tow hook, so a tow hook [large] was applied to an already painted cab/chassis. (This model, colour way, should always have an unpainted tow hook and never a painted tow hook painted in with the chassis. Also, beware of any example without a tow hook!) As this is a pre 1955 casting, it has the wording DINKY SUPERTOYS [not DINKY TOYS] cast on the underside of the chassis (DINKY TOYS was cast on the underside of the chassis from 1955 following the new numbering to the 400 series of Guy Lorries and these were the 431, 432 and 433, however, the Guy Vans continued to use DINKY SUPERTOYS cast on the underside of the chassis). And as with the 1952 issue Foden lorries, it has the correct ‘black nut & bolt’ fixing. It still retains the protective card behind the cab and is contained in the correct style, correct issue number 513 box and is correctly colour coded on the end with the letter “Y”. The correct box for this model is the ‘DINKY TOYS’ box and the picture on the face actually shows a small picture of the Guy with a tailboard, it was never issued in a stripe box.
How many Guy models in this colour way were produced is unclear, but what we can say is, if you own an original example, in an original box, then you are one of the few. This has to be one of the best colours produced in the Guy range, and is definitely one of our favourites.

“If you want the best, then this is it”

(this model is not for sale).

Please to note: Due to the increasing amount of ‘swapped’, fake colours appearing in the Guy commercial range of colours, it is becoming increasingly hard to find original untouched colours in their original form and in their original, correct issue boxes.
